Brother 420CN Fax Setup

This page will document the setup of the Brother 420CN on linux for scanning and sending faxes by an email-to-fax gateway (useful for VoIP offices). It is a work in progress.

Notes

  • Faxaway. Provides an inexpensive email-to-fax gateway service. $1/month + approx $0.12/min outgoing faxes, free outgoing to toll-free numbers. Requires specific TIFF format sent in an email, with a registered return email address.
  • tiffcp. A TIFF format conversion program.
  • netpbm. A versatile image conversion program, containing a large collection of programs.
  • Gentoo Howto. A howto for installing scan and print drivers for the 420 on gentoo.
  • Brother Linux. Main page for linux support at Brother.
  • SANE. A project for scanner access in linux. Links to many frontends, including scanadf which allows for mass scanning.
  • CUPS for Linksys. Documentation on CUPS on how to administer ports and configuration on Linksys etherfast print servers.
