Pidgin Setup Guide

Installation and configuration instructions for Pidgin instant messenger client. Instructions are for both gmail (XMPP) and AIM.

Download and Install

1. Download from http://www.pidgin.im/download/.
2. Install with default options.

Configure For Google Talk (Domains)

1. Start Pidgin for the first time.
2. Add an account for "gtalk" by first clicking on "Add..." as shown here:
   
   
   
   
3. Configure account according to the following template (domain is always egeland.net):
   
   
   
   
   
   
4. By default, offline buddies are not shown. This can be changed in the Buddies dialoge as shown:
   
   
   
   

Enable Automatic Startup

Copy the Pidgin shortcut (in the start menu) into the "Startup" folder (also in the start menu):
